Our featured guest in today's show is Jimmy Small, a rising star within NASCAR. For those that follow motorsports closely, major news was made late last fall when it was announced that NASCAR was purchasing the Iowa Speedway. Even bigger news wad that they appointed 28 year old Jimmy Small to become the new President. The goal: turn Iowa Speedway into a Midwest racing and event mecca, while simultaneously using it as a test bed for marketing and event tactics for motorsports facilities around the world. While that's a fairly interesting topic and has received major press, my goal in bringing Jimmy on the show wasn't to discuss it much. My real ambition was to understand his background, his drive, his ambition, his work habits, and the things he did to put himself in such a successful position at such a young age. I know that many of you in this listening audience have racing aspirations, and understanding how the business end of a goliath like NASCAR works will give you plenty of fodder to chew on. |
