1968 Ford Mustang

This insanely cool Calypso Green 1968 Mustang fastback is the resto-mod you'd build for yourself. With a built 302, all the modern conveniences, and just 178 shakedown miles since it was completed, this is your opportunity to score next summer's nastiest Mustang.

The color combination is perfect for this rev-happy fastback. The metallic green is a 1992 Mustang hue called Calypso Green, and kudos to the builder for not dressing it up like another fake Shelby. The clean original Mustang lines are emphasized by the bodywork, which was expertly done and 100% respectful to the factory design. The metallic paint seems to draw out details like the razor-sharp C-scoop and the quarter-mounted louvers, making this Mustang infinitely more interesting to look at than basic white. The black racing stripes are a great addition, stretching rearward from the hood scoops, which still house the original turn signal indicators. All the original chrome and stainless remains intact and brilliantly restored, with glittering bumpers and the individual bezels around each taillight lens. The only non-stock additions are the amber fog lamps fitted into the front grille, but they look so right that you'll never complain.

1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

While Chevy designed the Monte Carlo as an upscale personal luxury machine, this 1972 coupe throws subtlety out the window with its brilliant red paint job and warmed-over small block V8. With ultra-clean lines and tan upholstery, it's a cool twist on a true classic.

If you're going to paint it bright red, you have to prepare yourself for the attention you're going to attract. The Monte Carlo is already one of the best designs to come out of GM's studios in the early '70s, but putting red paint on it takes it to an entirely different level. First of all, it's big, and that's a lot of red, so it's doubly-critical that the bodywork be straight-and it is. It has also been subtly de-chromed, with shaved badges and rub strips, not so the car's identity is lost, but rather so that it emphasizes great features like those curving, sweeping fenders. Those extra-long doors have an excellent fit and seal up tightly. The tan vinyl roof is an unexpected treat, too, giving it a traditional look that you'd never see on a factory Monte Carlo. Too cool...
